Steamboat Springs Fire Department

The Steamboat Springs Fire Department started as a volunteer-based public safety service.  While the Steamboat Springs Fire Department still takes volunteers, the department now manages three local stations with paid firefighters, paramedics & EMTs.  Not only are they the first responders for mountain emergencies, and local emergencies, and service the surrounding areas, they regularly train and educate the public about basic fire prevention and rescue techniques.

Located on a 46-acre facility near the Steamboat Ski area, the Yampa Valley Medical Center services the entire community with its full-service hospital. The emergency department is a level IV trauma center that offers emergency services 24 hours a day. The hospital is one of the newest facilities of its kind in Colorado.

Steamboat Colorado News

Television
Steamboat has a local access television station called Channel 6.  Most of the time any viewer will find locally created documentaries about the history of Steamboat, the Ute Indians, and the Yampa Valley.  Other programming includes locally televised hockey games, some school performances, short public safety films compiled by local actors and residents, local commercials, short films produced by students at the high school during a film class, and general skiing and snowboarding films, those recorded in Steamboat and others as well. Although there is not a daily news program, Steamboat residents will typically enjoy the Denver news on T.V. and get their local news the old-fashioned way, by reading the daily papers.

A solar-powered radio station in the heart of Steamboat Springs has been broadcasting here for over 25 years. Local programming keeps listeners informed of community events, arts, and entertainment schedules, and special radio events like the Friday Afternoon Club.  Each Friday one advertiser will sponsor a happy hour event with drink specials and prizes.  Many of the free concert series presented in Steamboat during the summer and winter are also made possible by the sponsorship and support of the radio station.

Stagecoach State Park
Stagecoach State Park is located in the Yampa Valley, just south of Steamboat Springs.  Visitors will enjoy 92 campsites near a 780-acre reservoir with a marina, fishing, and hiking. The reservoir serves as a reminder of the area’s rich mining and logging history.

Steamboat Lake & Pearl Lake State Parks
Steamboat Lake is located just 30 miles outside of Steamboat Springs at the base of Hahn’s Peak.  Pearl Lake is just a few miles further.  The lakes offer boating, fishing, camping, and a full-service marina.  Visitors can reserve one of the 7 yurts(cabins) for a truly rustic experience or enjoy any of the 224 campsites for overnight visits.
